MIXING DAILY STAPLES WITH STATEMENT JEWELRY AND WHAT TO INVEST IN
It's no secret that I'm a minimalist when it comes to so many things in life, but I often gravitate towards statement pieces, too. Don't worry, even that category is minimal, but often times they are sentimental in some way - a gift from J or a surcie I picked up while traveling. They may not be things I wear every week, or sometimes even every month, but they're some of my favorite pieces in my closet.
When it comes to jewelry, my mix of the pieces I wear daily + my statement pieces are all I own. When I was in my early 20's, I used to have stands full of necklaces and cheap statement earrings that I reached for every day - come on, we all had the J.Crew bubble necklace, right?? Okay, the fact that I just linked to that shows you how much I love you - that was solely for your entertainment. Woooww, moving on! The older I've gotten, the more I've focused on daily staples, growing my collection of timeless pieces, and investing in a few statement pieces that I'll cherish forever.
For the dailies, I'm still growing my collection. I'm at a stage in life where I want to do my own thing - wear what I love and what makes me happy. I got a few more piercings for my 29th birthday and purchased small, diamond studs for them. Aside from those, I have small, dainty studs that I love and wear every single day. I want a ring on almost every finger, but not just any rings - ones that mean something to me. Lastly, I have a few necklaces that I layer and all three of them mean something to me, as well . Basically, when it comes to my everyday pieces - I want layered, dainty, and sentimental.
For the statement pieces, I want a) classic brands I love and b) pieces that can easily elevate my look. Like these Chanel earrings for instance, I've worn them with everything from a swimsuit, to an oversized sweater, to a gown. In the bottom, left hand corner, is my Gucci horse-bit choker. I can wear it as a stand alone piece or even wrap it around my wrist for a chunky bracelet. These are pieces that I wouldn't take anything for and hope to pass down to my daughter or daughter-in-law one day.
Whether it's a small, dainty piece or a designer statement piece you may wear three times a year - if something speaks to you, that's all that matters. When I look down at my hands, I see my wedding rings. My mom's wedding band that means the world to me. My 29th and 30th birthday gifts from J that are both engraved on the inside. (So is my wedding band, that's kind of J's thing and I love it.) When I pull out special statement pieces like my Chanel brooch, I think of our trip to DC when we toured the white house and spent the weekend with friends. J purchased a pair of blue suede shoes (we were feeling very patriotic, obviously) to commenrate the occasion and I purchased a brooch I'll love forever. As we grow out of the trends, focus on pieces that tell a story - YOUR STORY.

P.S. - THIS is the best jewelry box I've ever owned! It's brass + glass with a linen base and it keeps all of my pieces so protected. It's beautiful - I've had mine for about 3 years and it still looks great! My lalique dish that holds my rings, my limoge box that holds my stud earrings, and my French tray are all from my best friend, Paula and similar options can be found in her shop, if you're interested!
