Workdays are rarely the same

One day you might be at your desk all day, another day you might be giving a presentation, or on the road meeting with clients. On some days, it might be important to look impressive to higher-ups while there might be other days where it is important to look relatable to your team or be someone who can get their hands dirty. Many companies have issued a dress for your day dress code which means to dress accordingly for the day ahead. A few years ago, I shared a post on how to build a dress for your day wardrobe capsule and in today’s post, I am taking a different approach to that strategy.
HOW TO CHANGE UP YOUR WORK LOOKS FOR THE TYPE OF DAY YOU ARE HAVING
Instead of building a capsule, I am taking a few pieces and showing how you can change up your work looks for whatever type of workday you are having. Instead of thinking of your work wardrobe in a compartmentalized manner with pieces exclusively for each part of your work wardrobe needs, check out these looks for tips on how to integrate all pieces for the day ahead by just styling them differently.
Look #1
This first look is classic, corporate and safe. There are times when a look like this, where you want to blend in a powerful way, might be necessary. I styled this navy suit from Theory (link to the blazer and link to the pants) with a basic short sleeve top from BOSS Hugo Boss, beige pumps from Marc Fisher, and a simple mother of pearl station necklace.

Look #2
In this next look, I took the pants from the Theory suit and created an equally professional look that has a bit more memorable interest. With the pants, I added this summer tweed jacket from The Fold and layered it over this simple v-neck sleeveless top from M.M. Lafleur. I finished the look with chambray spectator flats and a statement necklace from Chico’s.

Look #3
This is an alternative look to the outfit above. I swapped out the top for this printed cami from Ted Baker that adds more creativity when paired with the summer tweed jacket from The Fold and Theory pants and changed the necklace for this lapis pendant style from Ippolita.

Look #4
This work look makes an impression while still looking corporate. I styled the same Fold jacket with an olive dress from M.M. Lafleur and finished the outfit with soft blue pumps from Nine West and a blue enamel link necklace from Ann Taylor.

Look #5

For a look that is still professional but a bit more casual, I styled the pants from the Theory suit with a printed camisole from Ted Banker and a peplum sweater jacket from Jonathan Simkhai. I finished the look with labradorite drop earrings and tan loafers from M.Gemi.

Look #6
In this look, I am dressing down this olive dress from M.M. Lafleur using the peplum cardigan from the last look. For a creative finish, I added these bold red earrings and finished the outfit with the beige Marc Fisher pumps.

Outfit #7
For a casual look that is still professional-looking, I styled the summer tweed Fold jacket with the pink M.M. Lafleur top with jeans-inspired pants in olive from Lafayette 148. I finished the look with the spectator flats and the same blue enamel necklace from Ann Taylor.

Look #8
I created an even more casual and still professional look for work using the same Lafayette 148 pants. To make this outfit more casual, I used the peplum sweater jacket with the BOSS Hugo Boss top and finished the outfit with leopard print Rothys and a clay-colored beaded necklace from Lele Sadoughi.

Look #9
Back to the pants from the Theory suit, I created this business casual outfit using an oversize modal shirt from Mango, the same bold red earrings from M.M. Lafleur, and the beige pumps.

Look #10
This look is a bit more casual than the last one but still professional for a business casual workplace. I styled the Mango blouse with the olive Lafayette 148 pants and finished the look with the leopard Rothys and gold Sole Society pendant.

Look #11
I styled this elevated casual look for work that using the jacket from the Theory suit with the BOSS Hugo Boss top and Lafayette 148 pants. I finished the look with the M.Gemi loafers and Labradorite drop earrings.

Look #12
In this last look, I gave the Theory suit a whole new look. I styled it with the pink M.M. Lafleur top and pink sneakers from UGG and finished the look with the same silver necklace from the first outfit.

Before you go out and buy more work clothes, look to see how you can use pieces you own to change up your work looks for the different types of wardrobe needs you have for work.
