As I was punching out circles for another design, this crescent shape appeared. As it caught my eye, I immediately realized just how drawn I am to the shape. Which is surprising for me since I tend to find cliché symbols uninteresting.
It made me take a moment to refresh my knowledge of the symbolic nature of the crescent. Within two paragraphs it was clear. Just about every group if humans has attached deep meaning to the form.
Most tend toward the ideas of fertility, regeneration and our shared humanity. Which makes perfect sense. As modern ‘culture’ removes itself ever further from nature, it’s important to be reminded that all humans who have and will ever exist do so under the same lunar forces and trepidation around the darkness of night.
The pieces are hand cut and the edges are filed and finished smooth. The pieces are formed for added rigidity and interest and then strung on a secure split ring The final pendant is about .75" (19mm) round and strung on a simple 16" long, 1.2mm silver finish chain with a standard spring ring clasp. The necklace is adjustable to 18".
