This elegant necklace is hand made exclusively for us here at Texan Art Schools by one of our longest standing jewellers Martyn Milligan. We wanted a simple yet eye catching pieces to celebrate summer and are thrilled with Martyn's sleek and fun design. Three separate leaves dangle from a central point, two sterling silver and one gold plate, creating movement and a subtle twinkle of light. Like all of his pieces martyn has paid great attention to the small details like his signature fob clasp and tiny Rinopai stamped leaf. The pendant is secured to a high quality 43cm sterling silver chain. Each leaf is inspired by a native plant.
One of the most special aspects of Martyn's jewellery practice is his comitment to giving back to the environment. For every piece of jewellery purchased Matyn personally plants a baby Rimu tree in the national forest boardering his remote Rinopai property in Nelson. He has hundreds of tiny Rimu trees which he nurses every day. Each one waiting to set roots and grow into the stunning Rimu trees we all love.
Martyn has a small independent jewellery workshop situated on the slopes of Mt Rinopai, Golden Bay, near the North Western tip of the South Island of New Zealand. Designer and principal maker, Martyn Milligan has been making jewellery items for over twenty years. "I try to make pieces that reflect what I am interested in. I love living at Parapara , on the edge of the Kahurangi national park. For twenty five years my jewellery making and daily interaction with the bush surrounds have been closely linked. It is really natural for me to make flowers. I never planned it that way but I just enjoyed the process even when challenging and so over the years I have really become a florist of sorts. I like my pieces to feel like they come from our place in the world, and enjoy the interaction my pieces have with my interests. I feel lucky to have developed a style of work which closely matches my experience of living here at Parapara."
